House Selikats, Gauteng

A newly wed couple was set to build their dream home in the well established area of Faerie Glen in Pretoria. Little did they know how much satisfaction they would find living in their own space.

Building in a established community has it’s challenges however House Selikats has proven to be an excellent addition to the suburb!

HÄEFELE COST CONSULTANTS is delighted to have been involved with this project!

PROJECT DETAILS:

This project consists of the main house as well as a bachelor flat downstairs.

This red brick house on the hill has stunning views over Faerie Park and as far as Groenkloof’s Telkom tower.

The house is loaded with green building ideas. From top down, the KLIP-LOK roof sheets consists of Zincalume® offering first-rate corrosion resistance and a lifespan of up to 4 times longer than ordinary galvanised steel.

All infrastructure had been put in place for future use of roof mounted solar panels.

All ceilings are insulated with 40mm thick ISO board, married with LED lights throughout the house.

Both kitchens are serviced by LP gas.

All windows, window frames, external door frames and external doors are made of aluminium.

Water is heated by way of a 4.7kw heat pump. Rainwater is harvested as well as grey water giving an abundance of water available to the already water wise succulent garden.

Internal temperatures can further be cooled or heated by way of inverter type AC units, installed in the house as well as the bachelor flat.

During possible power outages, this property is serviced by an external silent running diesel fuel generator.

To keep the maintenance costs low, external face bricks were used to basically make painting a thing of the past.

The external deck has been built with composite wood decking reducing maintenance costs to almost zero.
